We were enjoying banana splits at the local Sonic drive-in when I saw her out of the corner of my eye. I knew she wanted money by the look on her face. Not now, I thought. The moment my banana split came through the window on the left, she tapped on the window on the right. Apologetic, she needed just $10 more to get a room at the motel across the street. She had finally left him. She had put up with enough over the years. Constantly hearing that she wasn't good enough and that no one would ever love her had been sown deep into her heart. She said she knew better, she was raised in church. Along the way life happened & here she was 45 years old with no place to go. She needed a fresh start.
I forgot about my banana split and reached for her hand. I prayed that God would reveal Himself as the One who loves her most, gave her a couple of phone #s to add to the list she already had to call in the morning, and gave her the $10. I reminded her that she could trust Him for the strength she would need to keep moving forward and not look back and that I would be praying for her.
Sometimes winter lasts 3 months and sometimes it seems to last a lifetime. Whatever the length of time, there will come a change to the cold seasons in our lives and they will give way to spring time...a time for a new beginning...a time of hope.
Song of Songs 2:11
Look, the winter is past, the rains are gone and the flowers are appearing on the earth!
